The Armouries, Military building in New Westminster, Canada
The Armouries is a three-story building with corner towers, buttresses, and turrets designed in Tudor Gothic Revival style. Inside, 117 rooms spread across two floors surround a central drill hall that serves military training and administrative work.
The complex was designed between 1915 and 1918 by Thomas Fuller, the Department of Public Works architect at that time. Its construction marked a major investment in the region's military infrastructure during the First World War.
This building serves as a training hub for the Royal Westminster Regiment and shapes the community's identity as a place with military roots. The site remains where local military members gather and develop their skills together.
The site is best explored on foot since the exterior architecture is clearly visible from street level. Visitors should plan daytime visits to fully appreciate the details of the facade and towers.
Beyond the four corner towers, the structure features four hexagonal towers that give the building a fortified appearance. This unusual design choice sets it apart from standard military barracks construction.
