Washington's 8th congressional district, Congressional district in western Washington State, United States.
Washington's 8th congressional district reaches from suburban areas east of Seattle across the Cascade Range into central Washington's agricultural valleys. The territory links densely populated neighborhoods near Lake Sammamish with orchard towns and mountain communities on the range's eastern slope.
The district was created after the 1980 census and remained represented by Republican members of Congress for more than three decades. In 2018, Kim Schrier became the first Democrat to win the seat, ending a long period of Republican control.
The district encompasses a population of 778,099 residents with varied demographics including White, Hispanic, Asian, and other ethnic communities across urban and rural settings.
Residents can identify their congressional representation by entering their address on the GovTrack website. Legislative information and contact options are available through the representative's official platform.
Interstate 90 crosses the district, linking urban suburbs with alpine passes and fruit-growing valleys in under two hours of driving. Commuters on this route cross the continental divide between Pacific and Atlantic watersheds daily.
