The bridge, designed by Frank M. Johnson and constructed in 1913, represents early twentieth-century engineering practices in American transportation infrastructure.
This structure earned recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 as part of Washington's collection of significant transportation engineering achievements.
Since 1975, the bridge has transformed from a vehicular passage into a dedicated route for pedestrians and cyclists connecting neighborhoods through Ravenna Park.
The three-hinged steel design demonstrates the engineering capabilities of 1913, using an open-spandrel system that minimized materials while maintaining structural integrity.
