Cimetière de Lakeview, Cemetery in Capitol Hill, Seattle, United States.
Lake View Cemetery is a burial ground in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, its grounds spread across wooded slopes offering views of water and mountains. The site holds thousands of graves along winding roads and footpaths, bordered by tall evergreens and open lawns.
The site was founded in 1872 under a different name, later changed to better reflect its natural surroundings. Members of the first settler group to arrive in the area were buried here in the early years of the city.
The name refers to the view across the water, while paths wind between old trees and gravestones from different eras. Visitors often come to see the resting places of well-known figures and walk through the quiet lanes.
The paths are suitable for walking and lead through different sections with varying slopes, some areas being steeper than others. A map at the entrance helps with orientation, and most main routes are wide enough for comfortable passage.
Two martial artists from a famous family rest here side by side, and their burial sites draw people throughout the year who leave flowers and personal items. A tall stone column in another section honors soldiers of Japanese descent who fell during World War II.
