Downing Provincial Park, Provincial park near Clinton, Canada
Downing Provincial Park is a 156-hectare protected area in British Columbia centered around Kelly Lake. The park overlooks Mount Bowman in the Marble Range and provides spaces designed for camping, fishing, and swimming.
The park was established in 1970 when Clair Downing and his wife donated their lakefront property on Kelly Lake. This gift created the foundation for the protected area that exists today.
The park serves as a gathering place where people come together for outdoor recreation in the Cariboo region. Fishing, swimming, and camping are woven into how visitors and locals spend their time here.
The park features approximately 18 campsites arranged in a grassy meadow near the main parking area, typically open from May through September. Visitors should plan ahead since the closest shops and supplies are found in Clinton, requiring a short drive from the park.
Kelly Lake is known for its population of rainbow trout that draw anglers to fish its waters. The backdrop of Mount Bowman creates a dramatic natural frame for this fishing destination by the shore.
