Mill Creek

Mill Creek flows through the urban landscape of Visalia as one of the four main waterways that distribute water from the Kaweah River.

The waterway received its name from Dr. Mathew's grist mill and underwent significant modifications in 1910 when sections were lined with cement and covered.

The creek serves as a central geographical element in Visalia's development, with current plans focusing on creating additional green spaces along its banks.

One-third of a mile of Mill Creek runs beneath the surface of downtown Visalia, enclosed in concrete conduits under roads and buildings.

Despite the 1910 cement lining and covering intended to prevent flooding, the creek continued to overflow its banks during heavy rainfall periods.
