Constructed between 1925 and 1926, the Bank of Italy Building maintained its status as the tallest structure between San Francisco and Los Angeles until 1970.
The building represents the expansion of financial institutions in California, serving as the second home for San Jose's first Bank of Italy branch.
Recent renovation plans include the conversion of upper floors into residential spaces, with the creation of at least 100 apartments in development.
The building will house the Center for AI Excellence, an incubator managed by Plug and Play Tech Center for developing artificial intelligence startups.
