Three Rivers, Gateway town to Sequoia National Park in Tulare County, United States
Three Rivers sits where the North, Middle, and South Forks of the Kaweah River meet, nestled among the Sierra Nevada mountains at an elevation of 843 feet. The settlement spreads along the river valley and serves as the main gateway community to the national park just beyond.
The Kaweah Colony, a community of socialist pioneers, formed a settlement along the North Fork in the 1880s but dissolved when Sequoia National Park was established in 1891. The formation of the park redirected the area's development toward its current role as a service community.
The Arts Alliance of Three Rivers organizes the annual Redbud Arts and Craft Festival, presenting works from regional artists and craftspeople in outdoor exhibitions.
The town has lodging options including riverside campgrounds, cabin rentals, and hotels, all within a short drive of the park's southern entrance. Most shops and services cluster along the main road, making it easy to find what you need on foot.
Nine settlers from Rhodesia who arrived in 1900 established the La Cuesta cattle ranch and their graves remain in the local cemetery. They chose the area because its terrain reminded them of the landscape they left behind in Africa.
