Towers of the Virgin, Sandstone monoliths in Zion National Park, United States.
The Towers of the Virgin are a group of tall sandstone formations on the western side of Zion Canyon, featuring peaks known as the Sundial, Witch Head, and Meridian Tower. Each peak displays distinct layers of stone shaped over millions of years by water and wind.
The formation received its names from Native peoples who lived in the region for generations before the area became part of Zion National Monument. It later joined the national park system and has since become a destination for visitors from around the world.
The geological formations stand as natural monuments within Zion National Park, drawing photographers who document the changing colors during sunrise and sunset.
The location has a cold semi-arid climate with low rainfall, making spring and fall the best times to visit. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring plenty of water, as trails can be demanding and exposed to direct sun.
The complex includes eight separate peaks, each with its own distinctive shape and frequently visited by photographers for the color changes at sunrise and sunset. The different angles and lighting conditions create an ever-changing visual experience.
