Panguitch Lake is a reservoir in Garfield County, Utah. The body of water provides access to fishing spots and recreational areas for those exploring the mountain region.
Panguitch Lake was originally a natural lake of 777 acres, used as a fishery by Paiute Indians; its name means "big fish" in the Paiute language. A 24-foot dam later raised it into a reservoir with a maximum surface area of 1,248 acres, draining into the Sevier River. In 2006 rotenone treatment removed invasive Utah chub and 20,000 rainbow trout were stocked. In April 2024 transverse cracking in the dam led to a precautionary closure of Utah State Route 143 and a storage restriction.
The lake is most accessible during summer months and offers parking areas and picnic spots for day visitors. Roads can be snow-covered in winter, so planning ahead is advisable before visiting.
