Goose Creek Wilderness

Goose Creek Wilderness is a protected landscape near Zion in Utah featuring steep canyons surrounded by thick forest cover. A creek runs through the terrain, creating pockets of lush growth in the deeper sections of the gorge.

This landscape received federal protection in 2009 when it was designated as wilderness under national law. The designation came after extended efforts to preserve this undeveloped terrain in its natural state.

The wilderness designation maintains strict regulations prohibiting motorized equipment and mechanical transport to preserve the natural environment for future generations.

The area has no marked trails and requires navigation skills and detailed maps to explore safely. Temperatures vary greatly between freezing winters and hot summers, so proper preparation for seasonal conditions is important.

This landscape borders Zion National Park for about half a mile, creating a direct contrast between protected wilderness and a major tourist destination. The dramatic elevation changes across this small area support a surprising range of different plant and animal communities.
