Goose Creek Wilderness contains 98 acres of steep canyons with dense tree stands and thick vegetation along the creek flowing through the landscape.
The Bureau of Land Management gained authority over this wilderness area through the Omnibus Public Land Management Act, signed into federal law in March 2009.
The wilderness designation maintains strict regulations prohibiting motorized equipment and mechanical transport to preserve the natural environment for future generations.
Visitors need strong navigation skills and proper maps since the area contains no maintained trails and experiences temperature variations from below freezing to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
The wilderness borders Zion National Park for half a mile and features an elevation change of over 1,000 feet from the canyon bottom to its summit.
