Ancien hôtel du Gouverneur militaire, ou du Maréchal de Bourg
Ancien hôtel du Gouverneur militaire, ou du Maréchal de Bourg, Historical monument in Nuée Bleue district, Strasbourg, France.
The former governor's palace on Rue Nuée Bleue is a neoclassical building with columns and a triangular roof, constructed around an inner courtyard of honor. The property includes multiple connected rooms and wings typical of large private palaces from the 18th century.
The residence was built between 1725 and 1732 as a private home for a marshal and later served the courts and then police. Following bombardments in 1870, the main facade was substantially altered, while the inner courtyard kept its original form.
The building was designed for a high-ranking military official and displays architectural details that reflect the hierarchy and power of 18th-century society. The blend of baroque and neoclassical elements in its walls and doorways tells the story of that era.
The site is currently not open for visits as it undergoes conversion into a hotel. The exterior can be viewed from the street, where the preserved historic elements are visible.
The inner courtyard still displays the original 1731 facade, showing how the building looked before 19th-century changes. This preserved detail makes the courtyard a valuable window into the site's past.
