Ermitage Saint-Ferréol, Religious hermitage in Lorgues, France.
The Saint-Ferréol hermitage is a small religious sanctuary on a hilltop within the municipal forest of Lorgues. The site consists of a chapel and related structures reached through a walking path marked by fourteen stations of the cross.
The first chapel was built in the 13th century, and a second was added in the 16th century before both were integrated into a single structure in 1697. This construction history shows how the site evolved through different periods of religious use.
The chapel holds painted ex-votos in its chapter hall that show the personal prayers and thanks of those who came here. These images reveal how pilgrims have expressed their devotion and sought blessings over the centuries.
The site is best reached on foot, with a walk of about an hour and a half from the forest parking area to reach the top. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as there are no facilities along the trail.
Near the sanctuary lie remains of a Ligurian fortified camp from the 4th century BC. These archaeological finds show that the area had human presence and use long before it became a place of worship.
