Fort de Tamié

Fort de Tamié is a military fortification located in the French Alps that crowns a mountain ridge with a pentagonal design reinforced by bastions. The structure spreads across a large site featuring walls, ditches, and several buildings integrated into the surrounding landscape.

The fortress was constructed between 1876 and 1881 as part of a regional defense network protecting the Alpine valleys. It originally housed a garrison of several hundred soldiers who maintained strategic positions guarding the mountain passages.

The fort serves as a venue for music festivals, including the Éléments festival which took place in 2008, 2011, and 2012.

The site today functions as an activity center with aerial adventure courses and rope activities suited for visitors of different ages and abilities. Check ahead before your visit to learn about current offerings and when the site is open.

The interior of the fortress features underground barracks and storage chambers carved directly from the rock face. These spaces reveal the technical skill and determination required to construct this mountain facility.
