Ensign Peak, Summit and mountain in Salt Lake County, US.
Ensign Peak is a summit in Salt Lake County that rises 1651 meters (5,417 feet) above sea level. From the top, you can see across Salt Lake Valley, the Wasatch Mountains, and the Great Salt Lake.
In July 1847, Brigham Young and seven other pioneers climbed the peak to explore and plan the layout of Salt Lake City from above. The land they saw from this vantage point helped shape the city's founding.
The stone monument at the summit includes materials from locations important to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This collection links the peak to sacred places in the church's history.
The trail begins behind a church parking lot on Ensign Vista Drive and is roughly 1.8 kilometers round trip. Bring plenty of water, as the route is exposed to direct sun with little shade along the way.
The monument at the summit has a carefully chosen height of about 5.6 meters that represents the year 1847. This intentional design links the structure directly to the arrival of the pioneers.
