Freeport Center, Distribution center in Clearfield, United States.
The Freeport Center is a large distribution facility with approximately 78 buildings spread across 680 acres in northern Utah. It provides over 7 million square feet of space for manufacturing and storage operations.
The facility opened in 1942 as a naval supply depot before being converted to commercial use following its closure in 1962. This transformation made it into a major logistics and trade hub for the region.
The center employs many people from the region and houses around 70 companies across different industries. This diversity has shaped the Clearfield area economically and remains important for local job opportunities.
Each building has loading doors on both sides, with one side designed for rail transport and the other for truck delivery. This setup allows for efficient cargo transfer and handling throughout the complex.
The name comes from a 1966 state law that exempts stored inventory from property taxes. This special rule was designed to attract commercial operations to the area.
