Burano, Residential skyscraper in Bay Street Corridor, Toronto, Canada
Burano is a 158-meter residential tower containing 451 units across 48 floors in downtown Toronto's financial district. The structure integrates the preserved facade of a 1925 McLaughlin Motor Car Showroom into its modern design.
The site formerly housed a McLaughlin Motor Car Showroom that operated from 1925 until its closure in 2007. The historic facade was removed during construction of the seven-level underground parking structure and subsequently reinstalled.
The building's atrium displays a large abstract fresco by Italian artist Sandro Martini, adding artistic character to the space. This artwork shapes the first impression visitors get when entering.
The tower offers amenities including a fitness center, outdoor pool, hot tub, and garden available to residents and visitors. The location on Bay Street makes it easily accessible by public transit and provides proximity to downtown Toronto's services and attractions.
The historic facade was completely dismantled and stored offsite during construction to allow for the multi-level underground parking structure. This careful preservation process was needed to retain the site's architectural heritage while building a modern tower.
