College Park, Art Deco shopping center at Yonge Street, Toronto, Canada
College Park is a six-story limestone building with retail spaces on the lower floors and office areas plus event venues on the upper levels. The structure features Art Deco design elements and houses over 50 different shops, including grocery markets, retail stores, restaurants, and medical services.
The building was designed and constructed between 1928 and 1930 by architects Ross and Macdonald. It initially operated as an Eaton department store before changing its use in 1977 and evolving into a mixed retail and office complex.
The Carlu event space on the seventh floor bears the name of architect Jacques Carlu, who designed this venue for the Eaton family. This restored hall continues to serve as a gathering place that reflects the design ideals of its era.
The building connects directly to College subway station and is easy to reach by public transit. The various shops and services spread across multiple floors, so walking through different levels helps you discover everything the center offers.
The building's exterior walls use limestone from Manitoba containing visible fossils of prehistoric marine creatures. These fossil-bearing stones create a natural pattern in the facade and tell the story of life from millions of years ago.
