Toronto Police Headquarters, Police headquarters at College Street, Toronto, Canada
Toronto Police Headquarters is a twelve-story building on College Street featuring a distinctive ten-story atrium that brings natural light deep into the interior spaces. The structure rises prominently along the street and creates open interior zones through its characteristic atrium design.
The building opened in 1988 as the first purpose-built police command center since Toronto's police force was established in 1835. Its construction marked a major milestone in the city's law enforcement infrastructure history.
The facade combines glass blocks and pink granite cubes, typical of public buildings from the late 1980s. This material choice was a modern design statement for civic institutions at that time.
The building sits centrally near Bay Street with direct access to multiple transit options, including subway lines and streetcar routes. Its strategic location makes it easy to reach from different parts of the city.
An exclusive lounge on the fourth floor was reserved for senior officers from 1988 until 2023, when it was closed following specific incidents. This private space was one of the building's lesser-known features.
