Brigham City, County seat in Box Elder County, Utah, United States.
Brigham City is a county seat in Box Elder County, Utah, situated along the western slope of the Wellsville Mountains at about 1,350 meters elevation near the Great Salt Lake. The location offers access to mountains to the east and more open terrain to the west, with Interstates 15 and 84 serving as primary routes through the area.
Mormon settlers founded the city in 1851 under the name Box Elder, then renamed it Brigham City in 1867 to honor their leader Brigham Young. This renaming marked the official incorporation and reflected the religious leader's importance to the settlement's early growth.
The annual Peach Days festival brings parades, carnival rides, and car shows to Main Street each fall. This celebration reflects the community's ties to its agricultural roots and draws visitors from across the region.
Visitors can reach the city easily through Interstates 15 and 84, which serve as the main connections through the area. A regional campus of Utah State University is located here, offering additional facilities and orientation points for travelers.
The Baron Woolen Mills began operations in 1870 and produced textiles until a fire destroyed the historic industrial building in 2015. This factory was long a symbol of the city's industrial heritage and attracted visitors interested in regional manufacturing history.
