St. Jakob-Turm, Modern high-rise building in St. Alban district, Basel-Stadt, Switzerland
St. Jakob-Turm is a modern high-rise with 17 floors rising 71 meters above Basel. The glass-clad building houses offices and residential units, with a car showroom on the ground level.
The tower was completed in 2008 as part of Basel's redevelopment of its eastern entrance area. This period saw significant changes to the neighborhood surrounding the St. Jakob sports complex.
The Herzog & de Meuron architectural design integrates residential living spaces on the southern side while positioning office areas on the northern elevation of the building.
The building sits directly along the Basel-Zurich railway line and the A2 motorway for convenient access. Its position makes it easy to reach by both public transport and car.
The building's north side intentionally has no balconies to shield residents from railway and motorway noise. The south side features crystalline glass openings that face toward quieter views.
