The cemetery holds a regional collection of valuable gravestones: when the Horburg and Kannenfeld burial grounds closed in 1951, many graves were moved here, and in 1953 eighteen stones deemed especially worth keeping came from Kannenfeld. The cultural historian Jacob Burckhardt, buried here in 1897, was moved to Hörnli in Riehen in 1936.
