Pizzo del Sole, Mountain summit in Ticino, Switzerland
Pizzo del Sole is a mountain summit in the Lepontine Alps that rises to 2773 meters above sea level. The slopes are steep and various trails lead to the peak, each offering different levels of challenge.
The summit formed through geological processes that shaped the Lepontine Alps and established its role as a regional landmark. Val Piora developed around this dominant peak as a reference point for the surrounding area.
Local mountaineering communities gather annually at Pizzo del Sole to participate in traditional Swiss Alpine climbing expeditions across multiple established routes.
The ascent requires mountaineering equipment, good physical fitness, and preparation for changing weather conditions. Best climbing conditions occur between June and September when conditions are more stable.
Three mountain lakes called Chiéra sit on the southern side and form a natural water system at high altitude. These lakes are surrounded by rock formations and visibly shape the appearance of the southern face.
