Lago Tremorgio, mountain lake above Rodi and Fiesso, in the municipality of Prato Leventina in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland
Lago Tremorgio is a reservoir located at about 1,820 meters (5,970 feet) in Switzerland, surrounded by mountains and featuring clear water with an intense blue hue. The lake is accessible via a cable car from the village of Rodi-Fiesso and is served by a small mountain hut that offers basic refreshments to visitors.
The reservoir was created in the early 20th century as a water storage facility for hydroelectric purposes and has supplied electricity to the region since then. Its construction and management by an energy company shaped this location as a place of practical utility while remaining a destination for mountain visitors.
The name Tremorgio comes from Romansh and refers to trembling or unstable earth. Today, the area around the lake is a gathering place for hikers and climbers who use the marked trails and simple mountain huts as meeting points during their journeys through the region.
Visitors can reach the lake in about five minutes by cable car from Rodi-Fiesso, which departs from a parking area near the village, or hike up on marked footpaths from below. The walking trails around the lake are well-signed and suitable for different difficulty levels, with the quietest conditions early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
The water level of the lake varies significantly depending on the season, dropping noticeably during dry periods, which changes the landscape by exposing rock formations. These natural fluctuations show the dynamic relationship between the water system and the mountain environment, making the lake a constantly changing sight.
