Scopi, Mountain peak in Lepontine Alps, Switzerland
Scopi is a mountain peak in the Lepontine Alps reaching 3,190 meters (10,466 feet) between the Swiss cantons of Ticino and Graubünden. The summit sits at the border where these two regions meet, and visitors can access it without restrictions throughout the year.
The summit gained strategic importance when the Swiss Army built a radar installation and air traffic control facility at the peak. These military facilities were established because of the mountain's elevated position spanning two cantons.
Local mountaineers maintain marked trails from Lai da Sontga Maria near Lukmanier Pass, preserving traditional Alpine climbing routes to the summit.
The mountain can be reached via marked trails starting near Lukmanier Pass, where parking is available for visitors. The best time to attempt the climb is during warmer months when snow and poor weather are less likely to occur.
A cable car system connects the summit to the Lukmanier Pass road and was built specifically to serve the military installations. This private transport solution is unusual for a mountain of this type and not available to regular visitors.
