Abbaye Prémontrée du Lac de Joux, Medieval Premonstratensian abbey near Lake Joux, Switzerland
The abbey complex stands at an elevated position overlooking Lake Joux, featuring stone walls and a bell tower from 1326.
Founded in 1126 by Bishop Gérold of Faucigny, the abbey served as the first settlement in the Vallée de Joux region until 1536.
The monastery belonged to the Premonstratensian order, with monks dedicating their lives to prayer, education, and agricultural development in the region.
The bell tower offers guided tours from April through October, with advance reservations required for groups of up to 10 people.
The abbey received multiple names throughout its history, including Leonna, derived from the nearby Lionne stream that flows through the village.
