Liangzhu site, Archaeological site in Deqing County and Yuhang District, China

Liangzhu site is an archaeological location in Deqing County and Yuhang District, China, spread across a large area with river networks running through it. The ruins show ancient city walls, moats, and ceremonial structures from around 3300 BCE.

The site became known in 2007 when archaeologists discovered the foundations of ancient walls revealing a hidden city. Excavations showed that this civilization was about 5,000 years old and thrived during the Neolithic period.

The jade artifacts unearthed here showcase the sophisticated craftsmanship and complex social organization of people who lived during the Neolithic period. These discoveries allow visitors to understand how advanced the artistic skills and social structures were at that time.

Your visit is supported by the Liangzhu Culture Museum, which opened in 2014 and contains extensive collections. The museum provides detailed information about the archaeological discoveries and early Chinese civilization.

The site shows evidence of sophisticated water management systems and large-scale rice farming, pointing to advanced agricultural techniques. These farming methods reveal how skillfully people managed their environment in those ancient times.
