San Felipe de Neri Church, Catholic church in Old Town Plaza, Albuquerque, USA
San Felipe de Neri Church is a house of worship built from thick adobe walls with two solid bell towers and a cross-shaped floor plan supported by wooden beams. The building displays later additions in Gothic style, particularly visible in the decorative altar and pulpit areas.
The original building from 1706 collapsed in winter 1792, prompting construction of the current structure in 1793 under Spanish colonial rule. The church has maintained continuous operation as a house of worship for over two centuries without interruption.
The church remains the spiritual center of Old Town and a gathering place for the neighborhood community. Local residents use the space for worship, celebrations, and important life events that mark the rhythm of their year.
The church welcomes visitors and worshippers interested in exploring its interior features. The best time to visit is outside regular service hours, allowing you to move through the space at a comfortable pace.
The building is the only verified structure from the Spanish colonial period still standing at this location. This distinction makes it a rare survivor from the earliest days of European settlement in the region.
