Conejos Peak

Conejos Peak is a mountain summit in the southern San Juan Mountains that reaches 13,179 feet in elevation. From the top, you can see across the Rio Grande National Forest with views of forested valleys and distant ridge lines.

The mountain served as a surveying point during the exploration of the San Juan Range in the late 1800s. These mapping efforts helped establish accurate geographical records for Colorado's mountain terrain.

The peak serves as a central reference point for local ranchers who maintain traditional cattle grazing practices in the surrounding wilderness.

The best time to climb extends from June through September when snow has melted and weather conditions are most stable. These months offer the safest conditions for hiking the trails to the summit.

The peak stands as the highest point in all of Conejos County and rises distinctly above its neighboring mountains. This makes it a natural landmark visible from many locations across the region.
