La Cueva Historic District, Historic ranch district in Mora County, United States
La Cueva Historic District is a ranch complex in Mora County containing five buildings from the 1800s. The site includes a mill, a trading post, an adobe residence, outbuildings, and a chapel.
Vicente Romero founded the La Cueva Ranch in 1851 based on the Mora Land Grant. The property later became known for milling operations that served the surrounding settlements.
The San Rafael Church served the Romero family and their neighbors for generations, with its adobe walls and simple interior reflecting the faith and labor of rural settlers.
The district is located in a rural setting near Mora and is best reached by car. The buildings can be viewed from outside, and the surrounding landscape offers quiet spaces to explore.
The mill was so active that it received large shipments of grain from neighboring farms daily. This activity made the place an economic center for the sparsely populated region.
