Grays Peak, Mountain summit at Clear Creek County, Colorado, US
Grays Peak reaches an elevation of 14,270 feet and stands as the highest point on the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Botanist Charles C. Parry completed the first recorded ascent in 1861 and named the peak after his colleague Asa Gray, who visited eleven years later.
The Arapaho people referred to both Grays Peak and neighboring Torreys Peak as Heeniiyoowuu, translating to Ant Hills in their native language.
The Grays Peak Trail extends 3.5 miles from Stevens Gulch to the summit, requiring a high-clearance vehicle to access the trailhead parking area.
Mountain goats, pikas, marmots, and diverse wildflower species inhabit the tundra zones around the summit throughout different seasons of the year.
