Colorado College, Liberal arts college in Colorado Springs, United States.
Colorado College is a private liberal arts institution in Colorado Springs that spreads at the foot of Pikes Peak and covers about 90 acres (36 hectares). Buildings are mostly built of stone and follow an architectural style that combines local materials with regional building tradition.
The institution was founded in 1874, before Colorado became a state, initially as a preparatory school for higher studies. Over the following decades it developed into a recognized liberal arts college in the American West.
The campus museum gallery displays regional artworks and lets visitors become familiar with objects from different periods. Some collections reference the history of Ute peoples who settled in this area before the city was founded.
The college follows a particular study rhythm where learners focus on one subject at a time, covered in roughly three and a half weeks. There are eight such learning blocks per academic year, which organizes teaching and campus use differently from traditional universities.
The academic calendar differs from the usual semester division and allows more room per course for intensive deepening within a short time. This approach also changes the daily routine and the use of libraries because all participants focus on one topic at the same time.
