Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Art museum and performance center in Colorado Springs, United States.
The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center is a multi-story building on West Dale Street in Colorado Springs that houses art galleries, performance spaces, a cinema, a library, and an art school. It is one of the few places in the region where exhibitions, live performances, and art classes all happen under one roof.
The building opened in 1936, growing out of an art academy that had been founded in 1919 in the Broadmoor area. Over the following decades, it grew from a small school into one of the leading arts institutions in the American West.
The galleries bring together works by Georgia O'Keeffe and other American modernists alongside art from Native peoples of the Southwest, all displayed in the same rooms. Walking through the building, visitors move naturally between these traditions without any clear separation between them.
The center is open Tuesday through Sunday, with evening hours on weekdays that work well for those who cannot visit during the day. It is worth checking the current schedule for exhibitions and performances before you arrive, as both can run at the same time.
The building was designed by John Gaw Meem, an architect known for his Spanish Pueblo Revival style, and the exterior is one of the few examples of this style found in Colorado. This architectural tradition is more commonly associated with New Mexico, making its presence here somewhat unexpected.
