Long Draw Reservoir, body of water
Long Draw Reservoir is a mountain lake in Colorado covering roughly 250 acres with clear blue water. Rocky slopes and scattered trees surround the lake, and it sits at high elevation where the water remains cold throughout most of the year.
The reservoir was constructed several decades ago to store water for nearby communities and regulate river flow. It was one of the last high mountain lakes in Colorado to lose its ice cover each year.
The name Long Draw comes from the creek system that feeds the reservoir. Anglers form a quiet community here, sharing reports and photos of their catches to help others find the best fishing times.
The reservoir is accessible by car on a gravel road about 30 minutes from Highway 14. The road can be rough depending on weather conditions, so a sturdy vehicle is best, especially during winter.
Large fish can often be seen jumping and splashing in the water during early evening hours. This visible activity makes the lake an exciting spot for anglers who want to watch the natural spectacle as fish feed actively near the surface.
