Memorial Park, Colorado Springs, Public recreation area in Colorado Springs, United States
Memorial Park is a large recreation area in the eastern part of Colorado Springs, centered around Prospect Lake. It offers baseball and tennis facilities, an aquatic center for swimming and water sports, and open green spaces.
The land was donated by General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs, in the late 1800s. What began as an open gift to the city gradually grew into one of its main outdoor gathering places over the following decades.
The northwest corner holds a memorial with life-size sculptures and granite walls bearing the names of fallen firefighters and emergency responders. Visitors stop there to read the inscriptions and take a moment to honor those who served the city.
The park has several entrances along South Union Boulevard and Pikes Peak Avenue, making it easy to reach from different directions. Visiting on a weekday or in the morning gives you more space to move around, especially near the lake.
The park contains a velodrome that was used by the US Olympic cycling team and is still open for community training sessions. Riders with basic cycling experience can get on the same track where Olympic athletes once trained.
