Arapahoe County extends across 805 square miles of Colorado land, incorporating both urban developments and open spaces within the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood area.
The Colorado Territorial Assembly established Arapahoe County on November 1, 1861, making it one of the seventeen original counties in the Territory of Colorado.
The county received its name from the Arapaho Native American tribe, who inhabited the plains and mountains of eastern Colorado before European settlement.
Nine public school districts operate within Arapahoe County, including notable institutions such as Cherry Creek High School and Grandview High School.
Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora features an 800-acre reservoir for water sports and contains a designated off-leash area for dogs.
