Boise State University, Public university in Boise, United States
This institution spreads across roughly 285 acres (115 hectares) along the Boise River and includes lecture halls, residence buildings, and sports facilities serving around 26,000 students. The grounds also house public venues such as the Morrison Center for Performing Arts and the Albertsons Library with its glass facade.
The institution began in 1932 as a church-run girls' school and converted to a two-year junior college after the Second World War. Following several expansions and the creation of new faculties, it gained university status in 1974 with the authority to award master's degrees.
The campus centerpiece is Albertsons Stadium with its blue artificial turf field, the only one of its kind in the country and home to the football team. The blue reflects the team colors and makes games an occasion that draws students and locals from across the region.
The campus sits directly along the Greenbelt bike path that runs beside the river and offers easy access on foot or by bicycle. Parking is available in several garages, and during summer months the grounds are usually quieter than during term time.
The Albertsons Library features an automated book delivery system that transports requested volumes from closed stacks to reading areas within minutes. The setup uses an underground conveyor network and is considered among the most advanced at public universities.
