Kristin Armstrong Municipal Park, Park in Boise, Idaho, United States
Kristin Armstrong Municipal Park is a 28-acre public park along the Boise River in Boise, Idaho. It includes a playground for ages 2 to 12, bocce and tennis courts, picnic shelters with grills, open lawns, and restrooms in a year-round shelter building near the Boise River Greenbelt.
The site began as a tourist camp and early baseball stadium in the 1900s, then became the Boise Tourist Park for seasonal visitors. After the city took it over in the 1920s and named it Boise Municipal Park in 1938, it was renamed in 2016 for Kristin Armstrong, a local cyclist with three Olympic gold medals.
The picnic tables and covered benches near the river are the heart of family gatherings, birthdays, and slow weekend lunches, where locals grill food and spread out coolers on the grass. The bocce courts, used both by reservation and on a first-come basis, reflect the park’s role as a place for casual social games rather than organized sport.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset, with designated parking lots nearby, and visitors should leave vehicles only in marked spaces to avoid towing. Weekday mornings and evenings tend to be less busy, and the paved riverfront path offers an easy walk for strollers and wheelchairs.
The park sits directly on the Idaho Birding Trail via the Greenbelt, so a short walk from the picnics can lead to herons, kingfishers, and warblers along the riverbank. Even many regular visitors never notice that the ground under their feet was once a baseball diamond where Boise residents watched early local matchups.
