Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls is a county seat in southeastern Idaho that stretches along the Snake River. Low buildings and residential neighborhoods spread from the banks, while parks and groomed green spaces line the waterfront.

The settlement began in 1864 as Taylor's Crossing, named after a bridge builder who ferried travelers across the river for a fee. The name later changed to honor the waterfalls that provided power for early mills.

The River Walk system connects both banks with paths where locals jog and cycle, and the waterfront serves as a gathering spot for community events. Regional celebrations bring farmers and ranchers into town, reflecting the agricultural roots that still shape daily life here.

Many routes in the city center are flat and easy to walk, especially along the river. A visit during warmer months makes outdoor activities easier, as winters here can be harsh.

The original waterfalls that gave the city its name were replaced by a dam that now shapes the downtown view. An artificial waterfall along the River Walk recalls the natural feature that once drew settlers to this spot.
