South Okanagan-Similkameen National Park

The park contains semi-arid deserts with sagebrush grasslands and valleys filled with ponderosa pine trees across 27,300 hectares of protected land.

In 2003, Parks Canada and British Columbia initiated the evaluation process for creating a national park reserve in the South Okanagan region.

The Syilx First Nation Indian Bands maintain strong connections to this territory and collaborate with Parks Canada to establish conservation measures.

The park offers opportunities for birdwatching and hiking while supporting the local economies of nearby communities like Osoyoos and Oliver.

This area contains one-third of British Columbia's red-listed wildlife species and represents the only semi-arid shrubland ecosystem in Canada.
