The parish was founded in 1890 to serve Catholic miners and lumber workers moving into the area. The present church was built in 1909 by E. M. Kreig with bricks from Sandpoint, Idaho, and an arch of sandstone from Tenino, Washington. Architects Francis P. Rooney and Lewis P. Stritesky designed it in the Romanesque Revival style, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 5, 1977.
