Timber Terror, Wooden roller coaster in Silverwood Theme Park, Idaho, US.
Timber Terror is a wooden roller coaster at Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, Idaho, built with a classic out-and-back layout and a helix section near the end of the track. The structure is made entirely of wood, and the train runs through a series of drops, turns, and speed changes before returning to the station.
The coaster opened in 1996 under a different name and was renamed within its first year because another park was already using the same name. That early change is one of the few notable moments in the ride's short history since then.
Wooden coasters like this one have a devoted following among riders who prefer the rougher, noisier feel of wood over steel. The rattling and swaying of the cars is part of what fans come back for, and it gives the ride a character that smoother tracks simply do not have.
There is a minimum height requirement to board, so smaller children may not be able to ride. Visiting earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon tends to mean shorter lines, making it easier to ride more than once.
During the annual Scarywood Haunted Nights event, the coaster runs with the trains facing backward, so riders go through the entire track in reverse. Because you cannot see the drops coming, the order of the ride feels completely different from the standard version.
