Farragut State Park, Public park on Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho, US
Farragut State Park is a 4,000-acre natural area stretching along Lake Pend Oreille in the Coeur d'Alene Mountains. It features forested slopes, waterfront zones, meadows, and recreational areas including campsites, hiking trails, and swimming beaches.
This site served as a major naval training station during World War II. After the war ended, it was converted into a state park in 1964 and has remained open to the public for recreation since then.
The Museum at the Brig displays military objects from the World War II era, when this land served as a training center. Visitors can see original artifacts and documents that tell the story of this military chapter.
The park has 223 camping sites, ten cabins, and group facilities spread throughout its grounds. About 40 miles of hiking and biking trails run through the area, making it easy to explore on foot or by bicycle.
A designated area in the park is set aside for model airplane flying, where visitors can operate radio-controlled aircraft. The open space and freedom from obstacles make it a rare spot for this hobby in the region.
