Cathedral Provincial Park and Protected Area

Cathedral Provincial Park spans 33,000 hectares of wilderness, featuring sub-alpine lakes, granite peaks, old-growth forests, and the Ashnola River basin.

The park received official designation in 1968 with 7,372 hectares and expanded to 33,000 hectares following consultations with local groups and researchers.

The land lies within Nlaka'pamux and Syilx Indigenous Peoples territory, where native communities moved seasonally for hunting and gathering resources.

Visitors can access front-country camping areas by vehicle, while Cathedral Lakes Lodge offers accommodations, though no public roads exist within park boundaries.

Mountain goats inhabit the high alpine regions, with a population of 24-28 individuals navigating the steep terrains and occasionally seeking salt near camping areas.
