Similkameen Falls, Natural waterfall on Similkameen River, British Columbia, Canada
Similkameen Falls is a waterfall on the Similkameen River set within a deep canyon bordered by sheer rock walls. The water descends through multiple cascades across roughly 200 meters, creating a series of drops through the narrow gorge.
Remains of an old bridge structure stand above the first cascade, showing where people once crossed the river. This structure marks a historical crossing point that served the area for crossing the waterway.
This waterfall sits on traditional lands of the Similamix and Smelqmix Peoples, who maintain deep ties to this river and its surroundings. The water holds importance for these communities as a living part of their territory.
You can see the lower sections from Highway 3, which makes viewing quite easy without much effort. However, the upper portions remain out of sight because of a sharp river bend that blocks the view.
The river channel narrows to just 3 feet wide at the first drop, forcing water through an extremely tight passage. This sudden constriction creates a powerful rush before the water spreads into a deep pool below.
