Burmis Tree, Natural landmark in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, Canada.

The Burmis Tree stands as a weathered limber pine along Highway 3, with twisted branches and a stark silhouette against the mountain landscape.

The tree witnessed the rise and fall of the Burmis mining town throughout the early 1900s, remaining as the final marker of this former settlement.

Local residents maintain and protect this dead tree since 1978, repairing storm damage and vandalism to preserve it as a regional symbol.

Visitors can find the tree directly beside Highway 3 at coordinates 49°33′24.636″N and 114°19′53.00″W, with a nearby information marker.

The highway construction plans were modified specifically to preserve this 700-year-old tree, which continues standing despite dying in the 1970s.
