RCAF Station Claresholm, Military training base in Claresholm, Canada.
RCAF Station Claresholm was a military air base in Alberta with multiple hangars, runways, and training buildings at roughly 3,300 feet (1,000 meters) elevation. The facility included extensive infrastructure for pilot instruction and operation of training aircraft.
The station was established in 1941 and operated as a flight training school through 1945, preparing over 1,800 pilots from Canada and Commonwealth nations. After the war, the site underwent several transformations before becoming an industrial airport.
The base served as a training center where pilots completed their instruction and received official insignia marking their transition to military aviators. These ceremonies were important local events that recognized the achievement of newly trained fliers.
The site is now open to the public as Claresholm Industrial Airport and preserves the original hangars and buildings from the military era. Visitors can walk the grounds to see the historical structures and understand the scale of the former training facility.
From 1958 to 1961, the grounds were converted into a racing track for sports cars and motorcycles, attracting motorsport enthusiasts. This unusual use demonstrates how the facility was adapted for new purposes after its military operations ended.
