AMK Ranch, Historic district in Teton County, United States.
AMK Ranch sits on the eastern shore of Jackson Lake with 17 buildings constructed using rustic architecture and log building techniques. The structures are arranged across the property as a cohesive complex that has functioned as a residential property and later as a research facility over more than a century.
John Dudley Sargent and Robert Ray Hamilton founded the original homestead in 1890, establishing the northernmost settlement in Jackson Hole. The property changed hands several times in subsequent decades before becoming a scientific research center in the mid-20th century.
The property evolved from a private retreat into a working research center operated jointly by the University of Wyoming and the National Park Service. Visitors today can observe how academic work integrates with the natural surroundings of the lakeshore.
Visitors can attend free talks held regularly on Thursday evenings during summer months that provide insights into current research findings. Planning ahead is wise since the site is located within a large national park and access varies depending on the season.
During Alfred Berol's ownership as president of Eagle Pencil Company, pencil-themed fixtures and chandeliers were incorporated into the main lodge building. These distinctive details reflect the owner's personal interests and remain visible today in the restored structure.
