Cascade Canyon Trail, Hiking trail in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, US
Cascade Canyon Trail is a hiking route through Grand Teton National Park that runs about 9 miles through forests and mountain terrain. The path follows a creek beneath the Teton Range peaks and passes through varied elevations with changing landscapes and views.
The trail was constructed in the 1930s by Civilian Conservation Corps workers, including challenging sections along steep mountain sides. This infrastructure made it possible for later visitors to reach and explore the canyon.
The adjacent Jenny Lake takes its name from a Shoshone woman who assisted a survey expedition in 1872. This connection to local heritage remains part of the landscape and its stories today.
Hikers can reduce the total distance by using a shuttle boat service from Jenny Lake Trailhead to West Shore Boat Dock. This makes the route more accessible for visitors with different fitness levels and allows more time to explore the canyon itself.
The canyon contains several small ponds where visitors can spot harlequin ducks and common mergansers in their natural habitat. These bird-watching spots are often calm and offer unexpected moments of wildlife interaction during a hike.
