Cascade Canyon Barn

Cascade Canyon Barn is a wooden structure displaying National Park Service rustic architecture, designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding mountain landscape. The building sits along the Cascade Canyon Trail and serves as a visible landmark for hikers exploring the western section of the Jenny Lake area.

The barn was built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and gained National Register of Historic Places recognition in 1998. A decade after its completion, the structure was repurposed in 1960 to serve as a patrol station for park management operations.

The structure represents early twentieth-century national park development, demonstrating the balance between maintaining facilities and preserving natural landscapes.

The building is accessible via the Cascade Canyon Trail, which starts from the Jenny Lake area and offers relatively easy walking sections. Visitors should arrive early to allow sufficient time for the hike and to view the barn, especially during the busier summer months.

The building was originally designed as a working barn, but after its conversion in 1960, it served park rangers for patrol and administrative duties. This adaptation demonstrates how the needs of park operations evolved over the decades.
